UPDATE ON PLAYLOVERS’ VENUE
The Playlovers committee have been working tirelessly to address our lack-of-venue issue. As well as trying to negotiate with Nedlands Council on the future of Hackett Hall, we are exploring other avenues and searching out alternative venues with other councils.
Several members of the Federal Upper House are also interested in looking into our situation with Hackett Hall and intend to approach Nedlands City Council. So we are hoping that some pressure may be brought to bear on the Council to find a solution to our venue problem – ether by allowing Hackett Hall to be repaired or by finding us another suitable venue.
Subsequent to our last update, we were able to arrange a follow-up news article in the West Australian on Monday, 19th December, https://thewest.com.au/news/wa/actors-stage-protest-over-unsafe-venue-ng-b88332771z.
Although we are homeless for the foreseeable future, we do intend to put on at least 2 productions in 2017 – most likely, a play mid-year and a musical later in the year. To that end we are looking for suitable temporary venues, and we are just determining which productions.
Playlovers’ committee are working overtime on this as we try to secure our future, either in Hackett Hall or in a new venue.
