WE NEED YOU!

UPDATE ON PLAYLOVERS’ FUTURE AND WAYS YOU CAN HELPhackett-hall-entrance

For those who haven’t heard, in late August, Nedlands Council closed Hackett Hall, Playlovers’ long-time venue, with virtually no notice. They say a report they had done indicated that the building is structurally unsound, so it was closed for safety reasons.

Playlovers’ committee are working overtime on this. We continue to work with the City of Nedlands to try and secure our future in the area but there is nothing to announce at this stage. We are homeless for the foreseeable future!

It’s hard to believe we’re in this position when, less than a year ago, we were receiving the President’s Cup at the Finleys for being the most successful community theatre company in WA. Thank you for all the kind offers of support.

We are now stepping up our efforts to convince the Council to commit to refurbishing our home of nearly 60 years, Hackett Hall. We need your help. How can you help?

ARE YOU OR IS ANYONE YOU KNOW A STRUCTURAL ENGINEER?

We would like to have our own report commissioned about the state of the hall. We think the report the Council are relying on is flawed. If we can find a pro-bono engineer or building inspector to prepare a report we can get more clarity and certainty. Please spread the word and contact us if you can help.

TESTIMONIALS – How important is Playlovers to you and the community?

We have established the email address: SavePlaylovers@playlovers.org.au

We need everyone who cares about Playlovers to send meaningful testimonials about how important our club is. Did you get your start in the profession with us? Did your life improve because of your time with us? Do people close to you get value from being involved in the activities of our club? Nedlands Council needs to hear about it.

Please write about it and send it to SavePlaylovers@playlovers.org.au

Attached is a pro forma letter that you could use or modify or re-write, adding your name and signature.  Just scan and send to SavePlaylovers@playlovers.org.au or post to PO Box 164, Wembley, WA 6913.

We will compile all responses for submission to Council.

Please consider sending in some words and sign off using your full name. We’d like to have dozens of testimonials. Please spread the word.

PETITION TO THE CITY OF NEDLANDS

We have prepared a petition that we will submit to Council in the coming weeks. It’s in paper form as per Council guidelines. The petition will be available for signing at the One-Acts, at Dramafest and at A Little Princess. And we will be walking it around the neighbourhood. Do you or anyone you know live in Nedlands? Their signature carries more weight, but anyone can sign. We will make the petition available for signing as much as we can. Please watch our Facebook page for more opportunities to sign the petition.

BUY A TICKET TO THE ONE-ACT PLAYS and A LITTLE PRINCESS

We still have more seasons in 2016. We have gone from having a relatively low cost theatre of our own to suddenly having to spend many thousands (tens of thousands) of our saved dollars to relocate our shows. We don’t want to cancel these shows and we NEED to sell tickets.  A new venue for A LITTLE PRINCESS will be announced very soon.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page for the latest news and ideas.

Please share. Please write. Please sign. Please see a show.
